Frequently Asked Questions

Summer Safari Camp

Q:  What is Summer Safari Camp?

A:  A hands-on half-day coastal adventure camp where kids explore marine life, fishing, kayaking, cast nets, beach ecology, and more.  And hopefully they'll develop a love and appreciation for this amazing place we get to call home too!

Location

Q: Where is Summer Safari Camp?

A: Dropoff and Pickup for Summer Safari Camp is at the Wrightsville Beach Boat Ramp.  You will receive an itinerary for your week of camp detailing daily activities and specific locations of where we will be visiting each day.

Safety

Q: Is it safe?

A: Safety is our top priority. All activities are led by a USCG Licensed Captain with over 25 years of local experience. Campers are required to wear life jackets at ALL times, and we keep our group sizes small to ensure every child gets attention and supervision.

Age

Q:  What ages is camp for?

A:  Summer Safari Camps are for elementary-aged (typically ages 4-12) children.

Availability

Q:  Are spots limited?

A:  Yes. We intentionally keep camp groups small, so our camps can and do fill quickly.  Book early to reserve your spot.

Group Size

Q: How many kids are in each camp?

A: We keep our groups small (4-5 campers per camp) to ensure a safe, personalized experience where every camper gets hands-on attention and plenty of time to explore.  We've found that kids are a lot more likely to be engaged and interact with us when the groups are smaller.

What is Provided

Q: What is provided for camp by Yellow Boat Tours?

A: We provide life jackets and the Summer Safari Camp Kit that will have everything our campers need for their week of adventure.  We will have light snacks as well as water to refill water bottles on board as well.

Summer Safari Camp Kit

Q: So, what is in the Summer Safari Camp Kit?

A: Each camper receives a Summer Safari Camp Kit that includes a bucket, small shovel, dip net, and Summer Safari Camp t-shirt!  At the end of each week campers will also have an opportunity to earn a badge to celebrate everything they've learned for the week.

What to Wear

Q: What should my child wear to camp?

A: We recommend our campers wear swimsuits and water shoes.  Hats and sun shirts/rash guards aren't a bad idea either.

What to Bring

Q: What should my child bring to camp?

A: We recommend sending the following with your camper:  small bag with water bottle (we'll have water on the boat as well to refill water bottles), bagged lunch, towel, goggles/swim mask, and a sense of adventure.   Don't forget to apply sunscreen before dropping your camper off at camp!

Swimming Ability

Q: Does my child need to know how to swim?

A:No, swimming ability is not required. Life jackets are provided and we require our campers to wear them at all times, and all activities are supervised closely to ensure a safe and comfortable experience for every camper.

Weather

Q: What happens if the weather isn’t good?

A:We keep a close eye on weather conditions and always prioritize safety. If conditions aren’t suitable, we may adjust activities or reschedule the camp day. We’ll communicate clearly with parents if any changes are needed.

Cancellation / Changes

Q: What is your cancellation policy?

A:We understand plans can change. Please contact us as early as possible, and we’ll do our best to accommodate rescheduling based on availability.
